St. Thomas Aquinas Blanks Lakeland 34-0, Wins Sixth Straight State Title

St. Thomas Aquinas cemented its dynasty Thursday night with a dominant 34-0 victory over Lakeland in the FHSAA Class 5A state championship game at Florida International University’s Pitbull Stadium.

The win gives the Raiders their sixth straight state title — a Florida high school football record — and 16th overall. They seized control early, jumping out to a 17-0 halftime lead and never looked back, handing previously unbeaten Lakeland its first loss in 20 games.

Quarterback Andrew Indorf led the way with a touchdown pass and a rushing score, closing out his high school career as the school’s all-time passing leader. Running back Chance Washington added two touchdowns and 70 rushing yards, while the Aquinas defense held Lakeland scoreless and forced multiple turnovers.

“This is a historic win,” said senior defensive end Trevor Sommers. “We felt disrespected and wanted to show how great our defense really is.”

The victory also marked Aquinas’ 30th consecutive playoff win and sweet revenge against a program that had been a longtime postseason rival. Raiders head coach Roger Harriott dedicated the win to former coach George Smith, calling him via FaceTime amid the celebration.

“We couldn’t have done this without you,” Harriott told Smith. “I love you.”

St. Thomas Aquinas finishes the season 12-3, while Lakeland ends at 13-1. The Raiders’ impressive championship run has solidified their position among the nation’s elite high school football programs, as recognized by MaxPreps rankings where they consistently rank among the top teams nationally.
