Miami’s Cameron Boozer Named Gatorade Best Male Player of the Year

Cameron Boozer, a 6-foot-10 senior power forward at Christopher Columbus High School in Westchester, Florida, was honored as Gatorade’s 2024–25 Best Male Player of the Year at the 2025 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on July 16. A four-time state champion and the reigning Chipotle National Champion, Boozer led the Explorers to a 30–3 record and a fourth straight FHSAA Class 7A title, while averaging 22.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game.

Boozer’s decorated résumé also includes back-to-back Florida Dairy Farmers Class 7A Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors and two Gatorade National Player of the Year awards, in 2023 as a sophomore and again this season. He was a semifinalist for the Naismith Trophy and represented the United States at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, further solidifying his status as the No. 2 recruit in the Class of 2025, according to 247Sports, Rivals.com, and On3.com. Boozer will join Duke University this fall as part of a signing class ranked No. 1 nationally, alongside his twin brother, Cayden.

Off the court, Boozer maintained a 4.82 weighted GPA and has been active in his South Florida community. In addition to volunteering weekly with Fellowship Church’s youth ministry and tutoring algebra and geometry, he performs as a cellist with a local orchestra in Miami. His blend of athletic excellence, academic achievement, and community leadership epitomizes the qualities celebrated by the Gatorade program.

“Gatorade Player of the Year recognizes exceptional athletes who are paving the way for the future of sport,” said Anuj Bhasin, chief brand officer for The Gatorade Company. “Cameron’s performance—both on the court and in the classroom—epitomizes the spirit of this award, and we’re proud to celebrate his achievements.”

The Gatorade Best Player of the Year Awards concluded a week-long celebration in Los Angeles, highlighted by performance testing and educational sessions at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. During the event, Boozer and his fellow honorees trained alongside professional athletes, including Karl-Anthony Towns and Abby Wambach. Now in its 60th year, the program honors high school athletes nationwide for excellence in sports, academics, and community service; past male recipients include LeBron James and Peyton Manning.

Boozer’s achievement underscores Florida’s longstanding legacy of producing elite basketball talent. As a standout from one of South Florida’s premier programs, he joins a distinguished list of state alumni who have made successful transitions to collegiate and professional ranks. With his size, skill set, and leadership, Boozer is poised to make an immediate impact at Duke and continue Florida’s remarkable tradition on basketball’s biggest stages.
