FAU Softball Bats Erupt for Season-High 14 Runs in 14–5 Win Over FGCU

The Florida Atlantic softball team delivered one of its most complete offensive performances of the 2025 season Wednesday night, scoring a season-high 14 runs in a 14–5 victory over Florida Gulf Coast at FAU Softball Stadium in Boca Raton. The win improved the Owls to 17–6 overall and provided a strong offensive statement ahead of the start of conference play later this week.

Florida Atlantic wasted little time establishing momentum. After FGCU jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the opening inning, the Owls responded immediately with a five-run first inning of their own, setting the tone for a night in which the lineup produced runs in five different innings. The offensive surge was fueled by a balanced attack, with six FAU players recording multiple hits, as the Owls finished with 15 hits.

Among the standouts was Yani Guzman, who collected three hits and drove in two runs, while Jesiana Mora delivered a pair of doubles and three RBIs to help break the game open. Power also played a role in the offensive outburst, with Lily Holtje launching a two-run home run in the fourth inning and Chloe Yeatts adding another two-run blast in the sixth. Those long balls helped FAU build separation after FGCU briefly trimmed the deficit earlier in the game.

Holtje’s homer extended the Owls’ lead to 9–5, and Mora’s three-run double in the fifth inning pushed the margin further to 12–5. Yeatts then capped the scoring with her two-run homer in the sixth inning, giving FAU its highest run total of the season and putting the game well out of reach.

Florida Gulf Coast (5–15) managed eight hits in the contest and briefly stayed within striking distance after scoring twice in the fourth inning. But FAU’s consistent run production throughout the lineup ultimately proved too much for the Eagles to overcome. The Owls scored in each of the first six innings except the second, showcasing an offense that combined timely hitting with power.

In the circle, FAU pitcher Makenna Lee earned the win to improve to 5–0 on the season. She navigated early traffic and settled in as the offense continued to add support behind her. Lee and the FAU defense limited further damage after FGCU’s fourth-inning push, allowing the Owls to steadily pull away as the game progressed.

The victory also highlighted the continued growth of FAU’s offense as the season moves toward conference play in the American Athletic Conference, where the Owls will face a demanding schedule against some of the nation’s top programs. According to the American Athletic Conference, league play often determines postseason positioning and NCAA tournament opportunities for teams across the conference.

Florida Atlantic’s ability to generate offense throughout the lineup could prove critical as the schedule intensifies. College softball across the country continues to grow in visibility and competitiveness, with programs nationwide competing for spots in the NCAA Division I Softball Championship, the sport’s annual postseason tournament organized by the NCAA.

For the Owls, Wednesday’s performance demonstrated the kind of offensive depth that can make them dangerous as the season progresses. The combination of power hitting, timely RBIs, and steady pitching helped FAU close out its nonconference slate with momentum.
